lev 99 thunderjism - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 1:39 pm
So I got a new hard drive for cytoplastik.com.  Hopefully it will not crash before I get it installed.  Man, transferring hard drives is a pain in the ass on a production server.  Maybe I should wait until the weekend?  Eh, whatever.  I have a the radio station up now.  It's kinda, BETA-ish, but you can check it:

apt-get CRAAAASH - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 12:36 pm
ERRORS:

E: Dynamic MMap ran out of room
E: Error occurred while processing pgperl (NewVersion1)
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/debian.lcs.mit.edu_debian_dists_stable_contrib_binary-i386_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

Solution:

Put this in /etc/apt/apt.conf and the problem goes away, at least it did for me today:

APT::Cache-Limit 125829120;

Originally it was suggested to use "12582912" but that apparently was not enough.   Thanks to http://rwxii.bitblaster.com/k/11-1-1-031211102449/permlink.hptb

my eyes have finally glazed over - Monday, October 16, 2006 5:36 pm
I can't think anymore, just sit and feel my brain rot inside my skull.  This job ceases to be truly challenging.  Was it ever?  I am so tired, because all I have done today is sit in a chair and esentially do nothing.  Absolutely nothing.  My head hurts from thinking of ways to occupy my time.  It's like, if you have ever slept all day, and then when you are finally awake, you are still tired because you have been sleeping all day.  That is how I feel here every day.  I could fall asleep right on the keyboard, right now while I am typing this.  I guess I was awake for an extended amount of time last night, but well, whatever.   comments

my head is pounding - Friday, October 13, 2006 12:03 am
I have got such a headache right now.  I don't really want to go camping, I just want people to shut up.  If I don't go camping I will never hear the end of it from everyone.  I need time to relax.  I need time off.  I wanted to go out this weekend.  I guess it'll have to wait until the 28th.  Whatever.  Nobody ever calls me to go out anyway.  I'm boring.  I go to a job where I accomplish absolutely nothing all day.  Christ I have already been on myspace like 10 times and nothing has even changed.  I tried to play guitar this morning, because I was waiting to go to a doctor's appointment because I have been feeling sick for, oh, a month? A month and a half?   I'm sure going camping in the freezing ass cold is going to make me feel great too.  Then watching kids next weekend will be even better.  I hate my life.  I am so depressed. I suck at guitar.  I can't play anywhere near what I used to.  Every time I pick it up I remember why I don't like playing guitar anymore. I can't deliver at all.  I don't have time to practice to even maintain the level of playing I was at a few months ago even.  I'm so bored, and so tired.  I am wasting away into nothingness inside a little box made of plastic and metal.  Everything I try to do to distract myself just ends up reminding me how much this place sucks.  I have got to get out of here.

crappy is the word of the day - Wednesday, October 11, 2006 3:29 pm
Oh yea, so Monday, I had the whole day off to spend with Kat and I got to sleep in and get booty and eat sushi and it was absolutely fabulous.

So the issue I had with my palm Tungsten C does not look like it was a battery issue.  I ordered 2 brand new batteries and installed one in my palm.  It seemed like it worked for a minute, but then came the crash screens.  They came in all different varieties,  some of them the pixels would all just gradually fade to white, some of them I would get an error like "MemMgr.c, line xxx:  error in blabbity shlabbity"   and sometimes the soft reset button would work, sometimes I would have to reset from the pin in the back.  But most of the crashes could only be resolved by unscrewing the case, and pulling the battery cable out.  This resets all of the data so you lose everything (make sure you sync your shite!) and it's a pain in the ass to open that little case all the time.  Not to mention you need a torex 6 screwdriver, and only one item in the entire tools department of Home Depot contained a T6 in it.  $20 for a kit when I only need 1 bit.  Oh well.  It looks like it's the memory, in which case I'd have to replace the PDA motherboard.   I don't feel like dumping any more money into this though, so I will just wait for now I suppose.

So this whole no PDA thing has been bringing me down, as well as the whole me being sick-ish for like, I dunno, a month? A month and a half?  I think I may have pnuemonia.  I will find out tomorrow.  Ack.  I'm tired of feeling crappy and having crappy stuff.  Kat just got her car, and it makes my car look even crappier than it did before.

I guess the new renoise is pretty cool though with it's built in recording features.  If only I could breathe.

beat em if you got em - Tuesday, October 10, 2006 11:59 am
There was an interesting look into discipline in an article on the register: http://www.theregister.com/2006/10/10/us_execs/
This weekend was pretty lame.  Seriously.  Staying at work until 5am is not my idea of fun.  It wasn't even staying until 5am working, it was staying until 5am just waiting for someone to say "okay, hit your button now."   I have to quit smoking, it's killing me.  I'm always so tired and out of breath, it's not fun anymore.

Actually only friday night was lame.  Other than that it wasn't too shabby I suppose.  I downloaded the new BETA of renoise, version 1.8 BETA 4.  I have to say, it is pretty sweet.  You can record directly to samples in it, which is something I haven't ever seen in a tracker before.  Goodbye cubase, parting is such sweet joy. Renoise is available for registered users at $66.  I registered it when it was still $35, suckers.  Cubase had a crappy interface anyway.  If a WAV was the least bit out of sync, it was so hard to sync back up.  Renoise is great for editing large chunks of audio.  I am finishing up indecision, which is a song that is almost 4 years old.  I had started recording it last year in cubase, then exported the audio into renoise so I could create drums.  Then I lost the cubase file to a dead hard drive and I couldn't get everything synced up with the drum parts.  Screw cubase, that program sucks anyway.

My dad turned 60 on Sunday and we went to fells point.  The Fells Point festival was going on and damn was traffic sucky.  I drove 45 minutes to go 8-10 blocks into the city.  I ended up going back out to 95 North and going through the tunnel to get to the east side of Baltimore.  I really needed that $2.  Anyways, after driving for 1.5 hours on a drive that should have taken 30 minutes, there was a shiny empty parking space right in front of my brother's rowhouse.  This after I hadn't seen a single parking space for almost 10-15 blocks.  Hellz yea!

Isis started preschool yesterday and she loves it.  The hardest part was getting her to leave in the afternoon!  Ya know kid, you're going to be here everyday this week.  Jeez.

dammit verizon - Friday, October 6, 2006 09:44 am
So I was all geared up to get FIOS and then I find out that the home FIOS has inbound port 80 blocked.  If you don't understand, that means my webserver would be inaccessible (djekz.com, cytoplastik.com)   The only alternative is business FIOS for $100 a month. Dammit Verizon. comments
